How much does a Sri Lanka trip cost?
The cost of a vacation in Sri Lanka essentially consists of five components:
Hotels/Accomodations
Prices for hotels/accommodation in Sri Lanka
In Sri Lanka you will find hotel offers for (almost) every travel budget: from very simple hostels in the low-budget range for around 10 USD$ a night to exquisite luxury hotels for 1,000+ USD$ a night, there is really accommodation in Sri Lanka every price range. But be careful: The prices for hotels and guesthouses in Sri Lanka vary greatly depending on the time of travel and also the location. The popularity of the location, the proximity to various sights and attractions as well as the density of hotels in the respective location influence the prices. For this reason, in some places you get significantly better comfort for the same budget than in other places.
I have been personally checking out Sri Lanka’s hotels, guesthouses and specialist accommodation for over 10 years now, because it is important to me to find the very best option for your travel budget. Only those who have a lot of comparisons can actually assess the quality and price-performance ratio of accommodation. You can’t always completely trust hotel reviews on the internet. Most reviewers know none or only a few of the other options and therefore have very little opportunity to compare.

Transport
Prices for transport in Sri Lanka
The cheapest way to get from A to B in Sri Lanka is by public transport (bus & train). Unfortunately, traveling by public transport in Sri Lanka is quite uncomfortable. There are often no fixed connection plans, the buses and trains are usually completely overcrowded and the way the bus drivers drive can sometimes give less adventurous passengers an unwanted adrenaline rush. In any case, it’s great fun to try out public transport in Sri Lanka at least once during a trip. In our opinion, the legendary train journey in Sri Lanka in particular should not be missing from any travel plan. But if you generally want to travel comfortably and stress-free, you are better off with a private driver.
PRIVATE TOURS, i.e. tours where you travel in a private car with a private driver/guide, are therefore the most common and popular form of travel for a holiday in Sri Lanka. The costs for a private car with driver/guide depend primarily on the duration of the tour, the kilometers covered and the quality of the vehicle/guide. You can find various price examples in our round trip offers.
Warning: Anyone who saves money on private trips must expect unpleasant surprises. When trips/tours are offered extremely cheaply somewhere, people usually try to make money by ripping off tourists. So, if you don’t feel like going on a coffee trip (and have an offended driver if you don’t buy anything), it’s better to book a plausible offer straight away.
